Our Breeding Herd

At 2XL, we have made a conscious effort to select the best animals possible for our breeding herd. We have selected animals that are structurally correct and backed by proven genetics. We demand that a buck be masculine enough to look like a buck and a doe be feminine enough to look like a doe in the field. We demand that our bucks and does be strong in breed character. Mothering ability, good udders, and good teats are also very important in our herd. We also demand that a goat be an easy keeper and productive in the field because we are not set up to keep goats in show barns and on show feed.

In the late fall of 2004, we knew that we had outgrown our space. It was time once again to make a business decision. We started looking for land to build and relocate. We found what we felt was the perfect place. Although we have finally finished the new house, we are still in the process of building facilities.  We have more room than  before, but we will never have enough space.  This means that every year we must sell goats that are genetically and physically superior to many goats available on the market. Many times we have said, "we wish that we could have started with as good of goats as we are having to sell today."

The genetics that are used at 2XL are proven producers. Many of our breeding goats carry the genetics of bucks such as Lignite, Hershey's Chocolate, Hershey's Jet Black, Taebo (Ennobled), Sumo (Ennobled), Mojo Magic (Ennobled), Glipsie, TNTP Cherrio-Y-12, TNTP Tully-0-12, Magnum (Ennobled), RRD Guage (Ennobled), RRD Remmington (Ennobled), Rayles Topbrass (Ennobled), Eggstreme (Ennobled), Sasquatch (Ennobled), Eggsfile (Ennobled), Top Gun No 2 (Ennobled), Tsjaka (Ennobled), Almond Acres Fudge, RRD Top Brass (Ennobled), RRD Remington (Ennobled), RRD Ruger (Ennobled), RRD Cannon (Ennobled), TH The Big Cat, and others. These bucks have proven themselves time after time with progeny that wins both in the show rings and in performance tests.

The does that will be found in the pedigrees of our goats are some of the finest females in the industry. We have and will always feel strongly about the importance of the female lines in the animals that we use in our program. These are does like Bosque Valley Kalean (Ennobled), RRD Ms. M27 (Ennobled), RRD Magnum's Beauty (Ennobled), Eggsellent (Ennobled), RRD Nakita J34, Sharon's Two (Ennobled), JLF Frances 1407 (Ennobled), Eggspensive (Ennobled), NKAI, JLF Amelo, SGF KF43, Bell Star 271, Der Walt Ennobled G49, Miss League Black Magic, and many others. The does in our pedigrees have played important roles in the development of some of the finest Boer goat herds in the industry.

This collection of superior genetics was made possible by breeders like Rena Lynch (Bosque Valley Boer Goats), Jim & Lynn Farmer (Farmer's Stock Exchange), Nico Botha, Albert W. Ryals and Family (Rocking "R" Boer Goats), John and Jackie Edwards (EGGS), Troy & Mary Powell (Little League Ranch) High Mesa Ranch, Norman & Kathy Kohls (N&K Ranches), Kallie Kohls York (KallieHarie Reds) and Madiba, just to name a few. When looking at the success of these breeders, we feel that there are years of hard work and selection in each of our breeding animals.  These goats have the genetics proven to be producers and "excel" in anyone's herd.

Whether  South African, New Zealand, Australian, American, or a combination, we are constantly working to produce superior animals by using proven genetics. We have beautiful traditional, paint, black, and red goats that are carrying some of the most popular genetics available.

We depend on  natural breeding, artificial insemination, and embryo transplants to assist us in reaching our full potential as Boer breeders. We are very selective about the animals that we use in any and all of these breeding practices. We have partnered with other outstanding breeders in some of these endeavors. Because we are a small operation, we feel that attempting to stay on the cutting edge of genetics and technology is the only way that we can reach our goal of producing animals that will excel in this industry.
